MIL-DTL-901E and MIL-STD-167-1A Full Test Capabilities
Element U.S. Space & Defense has the expertise to accurately monitor equipment response and performance during severe environmental testing. Typical requirements include MIL-DTL-901E, heavyweight and lightweight shock testing, as well as MIL-STD-167 vibration testing.
Our one-of-a-kind facility is located on a 36-acre site with a 5-acre quarry (1800 feet long, 250 feet wide, and up to 130 feet deep), which is serviced by a 450-ton hydraulic crane. The test site offers easy access on and off barges from shore.
In addition to supporting Delta and Wye power requirements, our site has multiple 440V, 220V, and 120V distribution services for both single and three phase systems. Custom power solutions are available as well.
At Element U.S. Space & Defense, we provide adequate space at the site to store, set up and configure your equipment under test. We also provide operational support including cooling water, pumps, hoses, cables, and shock isolation solutions.
Our instrumentation engineers have the capability of recording up to 100 channels of instrumentation data to monitor shock response. This includes acceleration, displacement, strain, pressure, velocity and voltage monitoring. All data is recorded and processed in accordance with the customer’s requirements.
Heavyweight Test Platforms for Loads up to 100,000 Pounds
Our Rustburg site maintains a fleet of two Floating Shock Platforms (FSPs) and one Extended Floating Shock Platform (EFSP), all built in accordance with MIL-DTL-901E. The test platforms are augmented with an assortment of deck simulator fixtures — or DSFs — that are used for testing deck mounted equipment.
Deck Simulating Shock Machine (DSSM) in Rustburg
For shipboard shock qualification, Element U.S. Space & Defense was instrumental in the design and Navy qualification of the Medium Weight Deck Simulating Shock Machine (DSSM). The DSSM is a land based, cost-effective alternative for heavy weight testing of Class II (shock-isolated) equipment.
Temperature and Humidity Testing in Rustburg
When it comes to naval, avionics and other equipment that is intended for rugged use, it is insufficient to merely design and create it without substantial temperature and humidity testing to ensure its reliability once it is put to use in its operational environment. With more than 50 years of testing experience, you can trust our team to carry out temperature and humidity simulation tests to meet all your equipment and compliance needs.
