NTS’s lab in Arizona is now offering Category B Icing per RTCA/DO-160 Section 24. The team at the Tempe lab has upgraded the steam generator and added a large vacuum pump to one of their combined environmental chambers. With the new upgrade, Tempe lab joins several NTS facilities in offering Category B Icing to customers. This type of testing is particularly important to commercial aerospace customers who need to simulate the effects of ice caused by freezing of water condensation or by re-freezing of melted ice on equipment mounted to external surfaces or in non-temperature controlled areas of the aircraft where rapid changes in temperature, altitude, and humidity are generally encountered. This combination of injecting high humidity while pulling vacuum to generate the high altitude condition is extremely difficult to control and as a result, many labs cannot offer icing testing to this category. With the new capability, the Tempe lab now provides a complete one-stop shop for DO-160 testing. If you’re looking for Category B Icing per RTCA/DO-160 Section 24, contact us right away—and we’ll get you on the fast track to rigorous testing.
